Yerma [1&2/11/13]

We are pleased to inform you about the Autumn Tour of our forthcoming co-production of YERMA with Amina Khayyam Dance Co.

AKDC’s Yerma is a Kathak interpretation of Lorca’s classic tragedy, which re-imagines rural early 20th century Spain to modern inter-city Britain. With live music composed by Tarun Jasani and performed by James Barralet, Ryan Madhok, Lucy Rahman and world renowned tabla player – Debasish Mukherjee, Yerma is an exciting progression of storytelling through choreography set within British Kathak, which is led by Amina Khayyam with the company – Iris Chan, Lucy Teed and Seetal Gahir, The production boasts a costume design by Keith Khan.

The tour starts at the mac Birmingham before coming to London and visiting South East venues this year. It will continue from next March both nationally and internationally

This dance-theatre re-imagines the story from the religiously influenced patriarchal society of Spain to inner-city culturally diverse Britain where in many cases women are found facing similarly challenging and difficult cultural norms that subject them to peer humiliation in their communities.

Yerma follows zeroculture’s ground breaking production of Find Me Amongst The Black, which Collage Arts were also closely associated with.
