Collage & WAC at WorldSkills 2011
The 2011 WorldSkills event will be held at London’s ExCeL centre from 5-8 October, bringing together students and organisations from across the world to demonstrate their technical skills and compete against their peers. First held in 1950, WorldSkills has since grown to become the world’s largest international vocational skills competition, representing a real opportunity for employers to engage with the next generation of the workforce and show how exciting the creative industries can be.
The WorldSkills event is the ideal forum for talented people to shine. It is expected that over 150,000 people will attend over the four days of the event, watching 1,000 competitors from across the world compete in 45 skills areas. The Make It Happen exhibition is another major attraction and a wide range of organisations will be represented at the exhibition, including public and private sector employers, further education colleges and charities.
As part of the European creative industries and non-formal learning partnership project Euro-Aspire, Collage Arts and WAC Performing Arts and Media College will have a stand at the event from 6-8 October, which will highlight the career opportunities available in creative industries, including the new Creative Apprenticeships, and give students the chance to learn more about the industry and opportunities available to them. This will be combined with practical demonstrations, where students will be able to try out various activities and find out about the learning, employment or enterprise opportunities within the industry.
This work forms a key part of the Euro-Aspire project’s wider goal of promoting its work and profiling the work of the non-formal creative learning sector.
