Karamel N22 – November 2025 Newsletter

November at Karamel N22 has been full of creativity, community, and great music. Here’s a roundup of what’s been happening — and a sneak peek at what’s coming up.

N22 Open Studios – Collage Arts

Open Studios took over Karamel on 15–16 November, as part of N22 Open Studios powered by Collage Arts.
N22 Open Studios. We hosted a Private View on 13 November (6–9pm), showcasing works from 40 local artists in our gallery space.
The event was a real celebration of community creativity — visitors had the chance to meet artists, explore studios, and discover new works.

EFG London Jazz Festival at Karamel!

What an incredible week of music we just had! From 14th to 22nd November, Karamel N22 played host to a series of unforgettable performances as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Here’s a look back at the highlights…

14 Nov — Nichola Pope: Premiere of “Herstory”

We opened the festival with Nichola Pope’s deeply personal new suite, “Herstory”, performed for the first time.
Accompanied by Carl Hudson (keyboards), Mirko Scarcia (bass), and Jamie Murray (drums), Nichola’s compositions traced pivotal chapters of her life—from her origins in the Middle East to her journey as a musician.

15 Nov — Free Flow Classikal

On 15th November, we hosted Free Flow Classikal, a bold, genre-defying set blending South Asian classical music with free improvisation.

The line-up included Jonathan Mayer (electric sitar), Shri Ghadvi (tabla), Robin Christian (bansuri), James Pusey (electric guitar), and Daniel Drury (bass). This was a highlight of experimentation: no boundaries, no limits—a really special fusion night.

20 Nov — KAIYO with Mark Lockheart

On Thursday 20th November, KAIYO, joined by the formidable Mark Lockheart on saxophone, delivered a powerful set. Their performance carried that signature modern-jazz feel: melodic, improvisational, intimate.

21 Nov — Tomorrow’s Warriors Presents: ANKORA

On Friday 21st November, we welcomed ANKORA, an ensemble born from the Tomorrow’s Warriors programme.

The band featured rising talents across sax, flute, trumpet, drums, guitar, piano and bass — a reflection of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ mission to nurture the next generation of jazz artists. Their sound was rooted in jazz tradition yet brimming with youthful energy and innovation.

22 Nov — Still Waters

The festival closed on Saturday 22nd November with Still Waters, a quintet led by Henry Lowther. (Unfortunately, Henry was unable to perform due to unforeseen circumstances)
EFG London Jazz Festival. Their performance ranged from softly pastoral and melodic passages to bold, free-form improvisation — truly a musical journey.

The festival was part of the broader EFG London Jazz Festival, which ran from 14th to 23rd November across venues city-wide.

By hosting such a range of artists—from established figures like Mark Lockheart and Henry Lowther to boundary-pushing ensembles like Free Flow Classikal and ANKORA—Karamel reaffirmed its role as a vibrant, inclusive space for jazz. The week brought together community, creativity, and deep listening, making Karamel not just a venue, but a true home for this year’s jazz festival.
