Dis[Play] in a Day
Friday 18 March at Collage Arts
Three Haringey secondary schools, three professional directors, three plays in just one day
Three Haringey schools will get to work with professional theatre directors to create a play in a day on Friday 18th March 2022. The day culminates in a performance at Collage Arts’ McQueens Theatre, in front of councillors, the Mayor of Haringey and Catherine West MP.
Collage Arts are running Dis[Play] in a Day, to highlight the importance of drama whilst celebrating the wonderful creativity of Haringey’s young people. This is part of a World Theatre Day for Children and Young People initiative called Seize the Day.
Steve Medlin, Artistic Director at Collage Arts says:
“We believe that creative classes are essential for development and wellbeing of all young people. From good communication to increased confidence alongside the vast number of transferable skills that are developed. Private schools offer extensive amounts of creative engagements in the knowledge that it builds well rounded young people. Collage Arts is committed to ensuring that the students of Haringey have the same access and opportunity. Some will go on to be performers, but all will perform better in their chosen field as a result of the skills they are honing the projects we devise with our partners schools”.
Dis [Play] forms part of a festival of practice taking place in March and April 2022, which explores how Collage Arts is working to support and develop communities. This includes our work to develop English Language learning materials for Kurdish families, particularly isolated women, and, showcasing the UKMC films made to encourage applications to the so-called Windrush Compensation Scheme.
