Karim has played with Joi\, Trevor Watts Moiré Music\, and Oojami\, while Frank’s unique improvising style on the violin has led to tours with the Balkan group Mukka and recording with the Waterboys and Stereo MCs. He also produced Mukka’s Radio 1 John Peel session. Algerian bassist extraordinaire Hamid Bouri completes the quartet. \nEl Andaluz takes the audience on an extraordinary journey. From a poetic and reflective Andalusian Nuba to the trance-like Sufi music of the Sahara\, then to delightful Turkish rhythms and classical Egyptian belly dances\, they often end the evening with the celebratory Chaabi music of Algeria\, which never fails to get the audience up on their feet and dancing. \nSample the sound of El Andaluz: https://videopress.com/v/IG1N8SdXsounds of the east \nPlease book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. SUMMARY:WORLD MUSIC NIGHT with ZAID HILAL
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 5pm for a 6pm start. \nBigbromo Promotions x Collage present \nZAID HILAL Palestinian singer-composer-producer. \nVenue: Karamel\, 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. \nDate: Sunday 21 June \nTime: 6pm to 8pm. \nDoors open 5pm. \n“Zaid is the musical ambassador for Palestine” Husam Zomlot Palestine UK Ambassador https://youtu.be/MpiXMXQyzU0?si=4LFENYUww15yQlfh \nZaid Hilal is a Palestinian singer\, composer\, and music producer from Bethlehem. His music blends traditional Palestinian sounds with contemporary influences\, creating a unique and emotionally powerful musical experience. As a folk-pop artist\, Zaid reimagines heritage songs and original compositions in a fresh and engaging way—fusing deep-rooted cultural melodies with modern rhythms\, textures\, and storytelling. His voice carries both the beauty and the weight of Palestinian memory\, making his performances resonate deeply with audiences. \nSince forming his band in 2016\, Zaid has released over 15 songs and performed on stages across Palestine and internationally. His live shows are known for their authenticity\, emotional range\, and rich musical arrangements. He is a fast-rising star of the Middle East with 40\,000 + followers on his social media accounts and over a million youtube views. \nTHE CURRENT GULF WAR With the war on Iran it’s not possible to guarantee his arrival. But the promoters have bought flight tickets in strong faith that all is going ahead. \nZaid’s UK Tour in 2025 was a big hit\, taking in Bristol’s Cotham Club\, Elementary Festival\, Glastonbury Festival and London’s Jamboree Club amongst others. Audiences were very moved. \nHere’s a quote from Elementary Festival: \n“There are moments when music becomes more than sound\, it becomes collective prayer. This set at Elementary Festival deserves its own story. When Zaid took the stage\, his voice carried more than melody\, it carried memory\, longing\, resistance\, and love. As we chanted back “Hala lala layya” with him\, we weren’t just singing we were remembering. Rooted in ancient folk song\, these words echo a love so powerful it would be “written on birds’ wings. Carried by wind. Etched in tears” In that moment\, we sang not just for one another\, but for all who long to be free. For Palestine. For the ones whose songs are interrupted. For the voices that rise even when silenced. It was joy… It was resistance. It was ancestral rhythm meeting modern grief. And it was holy. May we keep singing. May we never forget. May our voices carry around the world. How wonderfully blessed to be present with this” Maggie \nLINKS \ninstagram @zaidhilalofficial \nwebsite http://zaidhilal.com \nYouTube @Zaid Hilal \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. SUMMARY:Free Flow Classikal
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, music from 8pm. \nFree Flow Classikal is returning to Karamel on popular demand with a very exciting lineup: sitarist Jonathan Mayer\, pianist Alcyona Mick and Kapil Seshasayee on electric guitar\, accompanied by jorī percussionist Manpaal Singh. \nJoin us for a moving exploration of South Asian Classical music through the medium of free improvisation. No boundaries – No limits. \nJonathan Mayer\, son of the late Kolkata composer John Mayer\, is a renowned sitarist & composer\, who has composed extensively for many genres including jazz\, Indian\, dance & symphonic writing and has performed all over the world\, and two very successful tours in India. He began his musical training at just 5 years old\, learning violin from his grandfather Albert Hepton\, piano from James Methuen-Campbell and composition from his father\, and later mastered the sitar. His ability to read Western notation has allowed him to perform in a variety of genres – playing with artists such as Orlando Consort\, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra\, among other notable names. He is also the Artistic Director of zerOclassikal. \nAlcyona Mick is a London-based jazz pianist and composer\, dubbed ‘an unusual powerhouse of a talent’ by MOJO. She was recently nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Instrumentalist award and has performed internationally for many years. As well as co-leading a duo with saxophonist Tori Freestone\, Alcyona currently works with a wide array of artists and bands including the London Jazz Orchestra\, Natacha Atlas\, Randolph Matthews\, Brigitte Beraha Lucid Dreamers\, Perfect Stranger\, Josephine Davies Enso ensemble and Orenda trio\, Miguel Gorodi Qtet\, Casimir Connection\, Martin Speake duo\, Kate Shortt\, Paul Clarvis/Stuart Hall trio and many others. As a composer\, she has worked in the commercial field writing music for documentaries\, short films and TV and also performed live to a silent film and a music TV series in Istanbul. \nKapil Seshasayee is a British-Tamil guitarist and songwriter reshaping South Asian classical music for a new generation. Drawing from Carnatic Indian classical traditions\, UK electronic music\, and guitar-led club culture\, his work sits somewhere between the discipline of raga and the energy of the dancefloor. Known for his distinctive use of gamakas on electric guitar\, Kapil creates music that feels rooted\, physical\, and forward-looking — made for listeners raised between cultures. Based in the UK and increasingly associated with London’s alternative diaspora scene\, Kapil has performed internationally across festivals and venues including SXSW\, The Roundhouse\, Concorde 2 (Brighton)\, and Dialled In\, sharing stages with artists such as Talvin Singh and Tinariwen. His work often explores identity\, migration\, and access — not as concepts\, but as lived experience. \nManpaal Singh is a UK-based\, versatile percussionist and Jorī exponent\, blending the depth of the Punjab Gharana with contemporary fusion sounds\, bringing a fresh cross-genre voice to traditional percussion. \nFree Flow Classikal is a new border dwelling concept that explores free improvisation across music genres perspective-ed from south Asian classical form – in development at Karamel\, home of zerOclassikal\, and one of north London’s premiere jazz venues. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. Email karamel8775@gmail.com to book a table for groups of 3+. \nDoors open 7pm. Music starts at 8pm.
