Photograph: Brian John Homer \n*Freight Train *carries tracks recorded apart for that lockdown stream (with even piano tuner visits impossible)\, along with those from their first live meeting in the studio in January 2022. The majority of tracks were chosen by Paul and trace some of his musical history with Bernstein and in Mose Allison’s Trio for 20 years\, and with Liam Noble on their 2009 duo album Starry Starry Night. \nCathy Jordan was born in County Roscommon is a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist playing guitar\, bodhran\, bones and bouzouki. Liam Noble – playing everything from standards\, new composition\, free improvisation and electronics\, Liam’s most recent release The Long Game 2019 introduced the trio with Tom Herbert and Seb Rochford. His long regular Trio with Dave Whitford and Dave Wickins was augmented by Chris Batchelor and Shabaka Hutchings for the quintet Brother Face and he regularly plays with Julian Siegel\, Bobby Wellins\, Mark Lockheart\, Christine Tobin\, Pigfoot\, and the improvising trio Sleepthief with Tom Rainey and Ingrid Laubrock. He is Professor of Jazz Piano at the Royal Academy of Music. \nPaul Clarvis – the original and ever-youthful Enfield sound (Paul turns 60 in 2023) has collaborated with some of the world’s best composers and performers from Nina Simone\, Sir Harrison Birtwistle and John Adams to Stevie Wonder\, Mick Jagger\, Sir John Dankworth and Paul McCartney. He was the late Leonard Bernstein’s preferred percussionist in London\, featured soloist in the 1995 Proms performance of Birtwistle’s Panic\, a concerto for saxophone and drum kit\, and worked with Rick Smith on the drum arrangement for the London Olympics 2012 show-stopping opening. He is Professor of Drum Set\, Latin American & Ethic Percussion at the Royal Academy of Music. \nVillagelife was set up by violinist Sonia Slany and Paul Clarvis over 20 years ago and has released 14 albums including of Stan Sulzmann Big Band\, Henry Lowther’s Stillwaters\, Four In Perspective (Hersh\, Wheeler\, Winstone and Clarvis)\, and ‘London jazz eccentrics’ (Jazzwise\, 2019) Pigfoot\, also with Clarvis and Noble. \nALBUM LISTEN HERE \n[‘Quite a ride!’ Guardian Review](https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/jan/21/paul-clarvis-liam-noble-cathy-jordan-freight-train-review-quite-a-ride) \nDoors open at 7pm\, and music starts at 8pm. \nPlease book a ticket in advance to avoid disappointment.

SUMMARY:Noah Stoneman
DESCRIPTION:Noah Stoneman returns to Karamel with a special Friday night of jazz and original piano compositions \nNoah Stoneman\, 21-year old pianist and composer from North London\, is studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Adept in a wide range of musical idioms\, *Noah says: “What binds these different languages together is improvisation” *– an art which Noah aims to master throughout his career. \nHe regularly performs as a sideman for some of the finest musicians across the UK from all generations\, including Jim Mullen\, Mark Kavuma\, Xhosa Cole\, Alex Hitchcock and also leads his own trio\, for which he composes and performs his original music. \nAs a composer\, Noah takes influence from all walks of music\, both contemporary and traditional. Noah has composed and arranged for a myriad of ensembles ranging from Piano Trio\, Big Band\, Jazz Octet\, String Quartet and recently had an original song cycle for piano and Opera Soprano performed at the RAM ‘Students Create’ festival. In 2022 Noah composed the original score for the mini series ‘Life in Love’ directed by Abel Rubinstein\, which was broadcast on ITV. \nIn October 2021\, Noah recorded his debut album at the local Livingstone Studios\, in Haringey London\, with his trio of Will Sach on bass and Luca Caruso on drums. Comprised of all original material and produced by long-time mentor Kit Downes\, the record offers a fresh poetic statement that realises Stoneman’s compositional identity. \nLISTEN TO BORDERS \nDoors open at 7pm\, and music starts at 8pm. \nBook a ticket in advance to avoid disappointment!
