DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Andy Cleyndert top bass player and his trio will be performing tonight. \nLine-up.\nSammy Mayne (sax)\, Mark Ridout (guitar)\, Andy Cleyndert (bass). \nBorn in Birmingham. Andrew took up the double bass at school and turned professional on leaving in 1981. His first professional experience was as resident bassist at the George Chisolm Club in Manchester where he backed visiting Jazz soloists including Americans such as Art Farmer and Joe Newman. On moving to London in 1982 Andrew quickly established himself as a highly versatile player capable of working in a wide variety of situations. Early tours included working with bands led by saxophonists Bobby Wellins\, Don Weller and Bobby Watson\, and trumpeters Ted Curson and Red Rodney. He also began working with a string of visiting soloists including Bud Shank\, George Coleman\, Ray Bryant\, John Hicks and Lee Konitz to name but a few as well as working with the cream of London based musicians including broadcasting with the Kenny Wheeler Big Band. \nThe last few years has seen Andrew join the bands of the highly respected Stan Tracey with whom he has already toured Canada and China as well as performing as part of the hand over celebrations in Hong Kong. Andrew has also toured Britain and Europe with the Gene Harris Quartet and worked regularly with the singer Annie Ross. He is also a member of the Bryan Spring Trio\, Alan Barnes Quartet and the Don Weller Quartet\, and has also worked and recorded with Stacey Kent. He has been nominated for the British Jazz Awards every year since they started. Other tours include working with American piano players Benny Green\, Junior Mance and most recently James Williams with drumming legend Ed Thigpen\, New York saxophonist Jon Gordon\, trumpeter Conte Candoli\, and guitarists Herb Ellis and Mundel Lowe. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. \nDoors open at 7pm\, and music starts at 8pm.

Jay adds enormous value to a variety of projects through his deep understanding of harmony\, melody and groove. His aesthetic and versatility has led him to major performances for COLORS\, BBC\, Facebook\, etc. Jay was awarded a scholarship to study at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2017. DESCRIPTION:London born and bred\, Miles Mindlin has been performing professionally since the age of 14 and has played at many prominent Jazz clubs and festivals across the UK and Europe\, working in other people’s bands and leading his own. Practicing since age 6\, Miles has always been keen to take on as much of the music as he can find. He recently received a “First” from the Royal Academy of Music. In September 2023 he will be studying for a Masters Degree at the Manhattan School of Music on a Scholarship. \nHis voice on guitar is distinctive with fiery technique\, a beautiful melodic concept and rich harmonic accompaniment style. He is deeply schooled in the history of Jazz with a great repertoire and appreciation of historical styles and sees it as a logical continuation to place his own music firmly in the contemporary style. He is a strongly developed composer and his writing and improvising make a coherent whole. \nHe is busy as a leader and has played his own music at: Ronnie Scott’s\, The Royal Albert Hall\, The Vortex Jazz Club\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, Birmingham Symphony Hall\, Pizza Express Dean Street and many others. DESCRIPTION:Collage presents Henry Lowther’s Still Waters. \n*Line-up: Henry Lowther (trumpet/flugelhorn) Pete Hurt (tenor sax) Barry Green (piano) Dave Green (bass) Paul Clarvis (drums) * \nHenry Lowther says: “Still Waters was born out a long association and friendship going back 40 years between myself and Britain’s premiere bassist Dave Green. We both felt that the time had arrived to play music of our choice together with some of the finest jazz musicians working in Britain today. As a result Still Waters is now one of the most accomplished and creative bands around. \nAlthough a classic quintet of two front line and rhythm\, Still Waters plays radical and original music\, ranging from gentle\, quietly pastoral and melodic music\, reflecting the band’s name\, through to dynamic\, free improvisation. \nI am immensely proud of the band. The main thing to say about it is that it is a BAND and not just a collection of individual musicians; in other words the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The level of creativity\, adventure and interplay on gigs never ceases to astonish me; no two gigs are ever the same and this is truer of Still Waters than of any other band I’ve ever played in. \nDave Green\, is without doubt the foundation of Still Waters. He has a way of finding the right thing to do at exactly the right time. Whatever else goes on around him he always keeps it right there\, allowing everybody else maximum freedom. \nPaul Clarvis is the most idiosyncratic\, original and creative drummer in British jazz who\, together with pianist Barry Green’s ability to move from straight ahead playing to wayward free improvisation\, makes the rhythm section an absolute joy. I love its ability to go anywhere it chooses to go. \nMy partner on the front line\, Pete Hurt\, is not only a wonderful and inventive saxophone player but also an all round accomplished master musician and one of Britain’s very greatest composers of music for big band. \n  \nDoors open at 7pm\, and music starts at 8pm. \nBook a ticket in advance to avoid disappointment. \nA pre-show menu is available from 6.30pm. SUMMARY:Noah Stoneman IMPROV
DESCRIPTION:Noah presents a monthly night of Improvisational freestyle jazz at Karamel. \nBand line-up: Noah Stoneman (piano); Caius Williams (bass); Mark Sanders (drums). \nNoah Stoneman is a 22 year old pianist and composer from North London. He is currently studying at the Royal Academy of music and is adept at a wide range of musical idioms. What binds these different languages together is improvisation; an art which Noah aims to master throughout his career. He regularly performs as a sideman for some of the finest musicians across the UK from all generations. \nAs a composer\, Noah takes influence from all walks of music both contemporary and traditional. He is equally adept at subtly emotive synthesiser world-building as well as classic orchestral/chamber themes inspired by timeless predecessors. Noah’s music has been performed at music festivals and venues around the world\, including Brainchild festival\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, La Petite Halle in Paris and Somersby Festival in Lisbon. Over the last 3 years he has taken up contemporary classical composition tuition with Ruth Byrchmore and Alex Hills at the Royal Academy of Music. Noah has composed and arranged for myriad ensembles ranging from Piano Trio\, Big Band\, Improvising Octet\, String Quartet and recently had 2 original song cycles for piano and Opera Soprano performed at the RAM ‘Students Create’ festival. In 2022 Noah composed the original score for the mini series ‘Life in Love’ directed by Abel Rubinstein\, which was broadcast on ITV and went on to be shown at the BFI London Film Festival. \nIn October 2021\, Noah recorded his debut album at Livingston Studios\, London\, with his trio of Will Sach on bass and Luca Caruso on drums. Comprised of all original material and produced by long-time mentor and ECM recording artist Kit Downes\, the record offers a fresh poetic statement that realises Stoneman’s compositional identity. \n  \nDoors open 7pm\, music from 8pm. \nA pre-show menu is available from 6.30pm.
