Acoustic\, Electric (samples\, drone)\, poetry\, Classical\, Jazz\, Improv\, left hand only\, original pieces and those by some legends of music. \nRobert Mitchell is one of the most significant voices in British jazz. Multi-faceted creator\, pianist\, keyboardist\, composer\, improviser\, writer\, poet and so much more. As Gilles Peterson put it “a very important\, influential musician” and a relentless seeker and thinker\, encompassing many art forms\, musical genres and constantly pushing the envelope. \nHe has released 13 albums and will be narrating poetry from his second collection – ‘City Of Sanctuary’ (Common Tone Press). Robert is looking forward to this special show as its Robert’s first solo performance at Karamel. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that bassist Steve Watts and his trio will be performing tonight. \nLine-up: Iain Ballamy (tenor)\, Steve Watts (bass)\, Tim Giles (drums). \nSTEVE WATTS has been playing jazz on the British scene for over 25 years. Whilst studying classical double bass at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama\, Steve discovered jazz and left immediately. He has worked with many musicians of international stature\, including: Django Bates\, Iain Ballamy\, Julian Arguelles\, Kenny Wheeler\, Stan Sulzman\, Jim Mullen\, Joe Lovano\, Kirk Lightsey\, Richard Rodney Bennett\, Thomas Stonen\, Peter Erskine\, Norma Winstone\, Gordon Beck\, Phil Woods\, Bobby Wellins and Adam Nussbaum. In the late 80’s he was a member of Loose Tubes\, has remained closely associated with many of its leading figures and plays with them still. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Andy Cleyndert top bass player and his trio will be performing tonight. \nLine-up.\nSammy Mayne (sax)\, Mark Ridout (guitar)\, Andy Cleyndert (bass). \nBorn in Birmingham. Andrew took up the double bass at school and turned professional on leaving in 1981. His first professional experience was as resident bassist at the George Chisolm Club in Manchester where he backed visiting Jazz soloists including Americans such as Art Farmer and Joe Newman. On moving to London in 1982 Andrew quickly established himself as a highly versatile player capable of working in a wide variety of situations. Early tours included working with bands led by saxophonists Bobby Wellins\, Don Weller and Bobby Watson\, and trumpeters Ted Curson and Red Rodney. He also began working with a string of visiting soloists including Bud Shank\, George Coleman\, Ray Bryant\, John Hicks and Lee Konitz to name but a few as well as working with the cream of London based musicians including broadcasting with the Kenny Wheeler Big Band. \nThe last few years has seen Andrew join the bands of the highly respected Stan Tracey with whom he has already toured Canada and China as well as performing as part of the hand over celebrations in Hong Kong. Andrew has also toured Britain and Europe with the Gene Harris Quartet and worked regularly with the singer Annie Ross. He is also a member of the Bryan Spring Trio\, Alan Barnes Quartet and the Don Weller Quartet\, and has also worked and recorded with Stacey Kent. He has been nominated for the British Jazz Awards every year since they started. DESCRIPTION:Set in the heart of the Caribbean home\, we meet K and M\, a couple living in a busy city. K’s intuition is telling her something is going on with her partner M. He’s been distant\, moody\, and withdrawn. In her desperation to find out what’s going on\, K discovers a shocking revelation about her long-term partner\, as she finds herself trying to conceal the true extent of M’s behavior. This is a thriller and dark comedy that was first shown at the Black Writers Collective showcase in Southwark Playhouse. This story explores love\, loss\, and generational trauma\, through the lens of Caribbean spirituality. Bystanders will be on between 21-23 July at McQueen’s theatre\, wood green. SUMMARY:Miles Mindlin- Lorenzo Morabito duo
DESCRIPTION:London born and bred\, Miles Mindlin has been performing professionally since the age of 14 and has played at many prominent Jazz clubs and festivals across the UK and Europe\, working in other people’s bands and leading his own. Practicing since age 6\, Miles has always been keen to take on as much of the music as he can find. He recently received a “First” from the Royal Academy of Music. In September 2023 he will be studying for a Masters Degree at the Manhattan School of Music on a Scholarship. \nHis voice on guitar is distinctive with fiery technique\, a beautiful melodic concept and rich harmonic accompaniment style. He is deeply schooled in the history of Jazz with a great repertoire and appreciation of historical styles and sees it as a logical continuation to place his own music firmly in the contemporary style. He is a strongly developed composer and his writing and improvising make a coherent whole. \nHe is busy as a leader and has played his own music at: Ronnie Scott’s\, The Royal Albert Hall\, The Vortex Jazz Club\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, Birmingham Symphony Hall\, Pizza Express Dean Street and many others. DESCRIPTION:Band line-up: Mornington Locket (sax); Alex King (bass); Sophie Alloway (drums) \nMornington Lockett is one of Britain’s leading tenor saxophonists. He became well known internationally through his touring work with the Ronnie Scott quintet\, Jimmy Smith and Arturo Sandoval\, and he played regularly with legendary pianist\, Stan Tracey.
