SUMMARY:Simon Picard Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, music starts at 8pm. \nBand Line-up: Simon Picard – tenor saxophone\, Pete Whitaker – piano\, Dave Green – bass\, Matt Holme – drums \nSimon Picard first gained acclaim in the early 1980’s with the award-winning Stinky Winkles\, but it was as the “P” in the superb trio\, R.P.M. An expanded line-up – 7 R.P.M. – featured regularly at the Bracknell Jazz Festival\, where Simon also appeared with Trevor Watts Moire Music\, and John Stevens’ Folkus. Other ventures included membership of Barry Guy’s London Jazz Composers’ Orchestra\, and numerous projects with Elton Dean and Keith Tippett\, as well as leading his own groups. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. SUMMARY:George Crotty Trio
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, music starts at 8pm. \nBand line-up: George Crotty\, (cello)\, John Murchison (bass) \, Jeremy Smith\, (percussion) \nKnown for their expressive fluidity and modal orientation\, The George Crotty Trio engages in cross-cultural interplay within modal jazz\, Indian raga\, and Arabic maqam\, all while pushing the boundaries of the cello as a jazz instrument\, on which bandleader George Crotty has forged his own exciting vocabulary.\nFollowing his graduation from the Berklee College of Music\, Crotty immersed himself in New York’s jazz and world music scenes\, playing with several ensembles\, such as the Brooklyn Raga Massive\, and the Detroit-based National Arab Orchestra. Additionally\, he has enjoyed fruitful collaborations with Simon Shaheen\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Anat Cohen\, and Darol Anger.\nPowered by percussionist Jeremy Smith and bassist John Murchsion\, The George Crotty Trio’s sound deviates from a trio’s typical hierarchy. The three players intertwine on their own spontaneous terms in an exploration of groove and colour\, lending Crotty’s tunes an exciting three-dimensional quality. \n“Transcends the trio format.” – The WholeNote \n“A stream of genre-blurring invention.” – All About Jazz \n“Sounds like the cosmopolitan centre Toronto is.” – Canadian Music Centre \nwww .georegcrotty.com/trio www.facebook.com/georgecrottycello www.instagram.com/georgecrottycello https://georgecrotty.bandcamp.com/album/chronotope \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm.
