SUMMARY:Still Waters
DESCRIPTION:Line Up: Henry Lowther (trumpet)\, Pete Hurt (tenor sax)\, Barry Green (piano)\, Dave Green (bass)\, Paul Clarvis (drums). \nHenry Lowther’s Still Waters was born out a long association and friendship\, going back forty years\, between Henry and bassist Dave Green. They both felt that the time had arrived to play the music of their choice\, together with some of the finest jazz musicians working in Britain today. As a result Still Waters is now one of the most accomplished\, tightly ensembled and creative bands around. \nAlthough a classic quintet of two front line and rhythm\, Still Waters plays radical and original music\, ranging from gentle\, quietly pastoral and melodic music\, reflecting the band’s name\, through to dynamic\, free improvisation. Henry Lowther was born in Leicester\, England\, in 1941. Over the last 60 years Henry’s work on the British jazz scene reads like a “Who’s Who”. He has played regularly with\, amongst many others\, Gordon Beck\, Michael Garrick\, Graham Collier\, Mike Gibbs\, Pete King\, Loose Tubes\, John Surman\, John Taylor\, Stan Tracey and Kenny Wheeler \n“Meltingly attractive solos\, startling originality.” (Chris Parker\, Vortex review). \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. Email karamel8775@gmail.com to book a table for groups of 3+. \nDoors open 7pm. Music starts at 8pm.

SUMMARY:Tereza Catarov - Debut Album release - Koren
DESCRIPTION:Tereza Catarov is a London-based singer\, pianist\, and composer whose music bridges contemporary jazz with traditional Balkan and Eastern European influences. Her work is deeply rooted in the multicultural heritage of her upbringing\, blending Romanian and Bulgarian folk traditions with jazz. \nHer debut album\, Koren — meaning “root” in several Slavic languages—honours the voices of the women who shaped her early life\, particularly her grandmothers and the broader community of elders from her childhood. It is a sonic archive of resilience\, told through original compositions\, reimagined folk melodies\, and fragments of oral history. \nFor this project\, Tereza assembled a stellar international ensemble: Yiorgos Bereris (piano)\, Cem Evin (guitar)\, Thodoris Ziarkas (double bass)\, and Billy Pod (drums). Together\, they create an intimate yet expansive soundscape—where traditional folk melodies meet contemporary improvisation\, and ancient languages find new life. \nTereza has performed at prestigious festivals such as the EFG London Jazz Festival\, Swingin’ Groningen\, JazzX\, and Jazz in the Park (winning first prize in 2018). She has graced iconic venues\, including the Southbank Centre\, Vortex Jazz Club\, and Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho. Her music has garnered acclaim\, with features in London Jazz News\, airplay on Jazz FM and National Romanian Radio\, and a televised video premiere on National Romanian Television. With her evocative storytelling\, expressive vocal style\, and deep respect for tradition\, Tereza Catarov continues to shape a unique musical voice that resonates across cultures. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. Email karamel8775@gmail.com to book a table for groups of 3+. \nDoors open 7pm. Music starts at 8pm.

SUMMARY:Maydan Ensemble of the North London Jazz Collective
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, music from 8pm. \nThe Maydan Ensemble of the North London Jazz Collective is a quintet that blends modern jazz with Arabic\, Anatolian and Persian folk music. Having formed at the start of 2025\, they have wowed audiences\, selling out multiple venues across London\, including Palestine House and the Green Note\, as well as recently headlining Zeman Festival in Serbia. They are a fully international group comprising some of London’s busiest jazz musicians in a unique setting: – rising star Amena El Adb\, the Egyptian singer – acclaimed Irish-Iranian jazz guitarist Kourosh Kanani – one the finest Iranian folk musicians in London\, Parham Bahadoran on reeds (zurna\, duduk and clarinet) – Italian-English bassist and stalwart of the London jazz scene Lorenzo Morabito (Giacomo Smith\, Peter Horsfall\, Mark Kavuma etc); – Londoner Robbie Ellison (Steve Fishwick\, Frank Basile\, etc) on drums. \nThe group explores the intersection of jazz and a bricolage of Middle Eastern musical traditions from two perspectives: that of material from the jazz canon inspired by West Asia; and that of the group’s own jazz-flavoured arrangements and renditions of Arabic\, Anatolian and Persian folk tunes. \n’Maydan’ means ‘town square’ or ‘public meeting-place’. Originating in Farsi\, the word now finds usage in Arabic\, Turkish\, Urdu\, Georgian and Ukrainian. In taking this name\, the group recognises first and foremost that diverse musical traditions find commonality by their grounding in communal life and social practice\, while embracing the subversive political potential of music as a collective\, convivial act. \nAbout the North London Jazz Collective: The NLJC is a community of the UK’s finest jazz musicians who’s collective output explores all things from trad and gypsy jazz\, swing and bebop to more contemporary and experimental stylings. Our members play regularly at the UK’s top venues such as Ronnie Scotts\, Soho Pizza\, 606\, Vortex etc; at major festivals both in UK (eg. London Jazz Festival and Love Supreme Festival) as well as touring extensively in Europe and elsewhere. Members have received recognition such as BBC Young Jazz musician of the Year\, Arts Council Grants\, and other awards for performances and recordings. The Collective meets every Wednesday for the Brewhouse Session in Highbury\, where a different house band each week plays a set of curated material which is followed by\, what has become over the last year\, one of the most talked-about jam sessions in London. While guest artists\, international and UK-based\, have included Gabrielle Stravelli\, Pete Horsfall\, Mark Taylor\, Pat O’Leary\, Neil Saidi\, Noe Codjia\, Olli Soikelli\, Bjorn Ingelstamt and Paulo Morello\, the house band regularly features star names of UK jazz\, such as Alex Garnett\, Steve Fishwick\, Deschanel Gordon\, Allison Neale\, Honey Boulton\, Harry Diplock\, Matyas Gayer\, Rob Barron\, Kourosh Kanani\, Gabriel Latchin\, Sam Braysher\, Nat Steele\, Fraser Smith\, Alex Bryson and Sean Fyfe\, along with rising talents Donovan Haffner\, Klara Devlin\, Guilia Marro\, Olivia Cuttill\, Jacob Wilson and Zak Sholapurkar. The list of musicians\, dancers and aficionados who have attended the jam sessions is a who’s who of British Jazz and beyond\, including Fred Again\, Georgia Cecile\, the former Sudanese Ambassador\, Steve Brown\, Ruben Fox\, Artie Zaitz\, Miranda Radford\, Louise Messenger and many more. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ. A BBC New Generation Artist and with three critically acclaimed albums on Edition Records under his name\, his most recent offering Effra showcases his ‘melodic gift’ (John Fordham\, The Guardian) and ability to masterfully combine beautifully-crafted compositions with free-spirited improvisation. Written over a three-year period the self-produced album\, released in early 2025 on Ubuntu Music\, marks the arrival of an artist who has been on a voyage of self-discovery. \nHis aforementioned collective features some of the most exhilarating and sought-after young musicians in London and was formed during Misha’s final year at Royal Academy of Music over a decade ago. An experienced band-leader and versatile sideman\, Misha regularly performs all over the UK and around the world\, including at top London venues such as Ronnie Scott’s\, the Vortex\, King’s Place and Royal Albert Hall. His vast musical travels have led him to work alongside inspiring musicians such as Alice Zawadzki\, Dave O’Higgins\, Fred Thomas\, Tim Garland\, Viktoria Mullova\, Enzo Zirilli\, Sam Lee\, Rob Luft\, Paul Clarvis\, Stan Sulzmann and Nessi Gomes. In 2024 he was part of a release on ECM Records Za Górami in a trio with Alice Zawadzki and Fred Thomas which was The Guardian’s Jazz album of the month. \nA prolific composer and arranger in his own right\, Misha embraces his jazz\, classical\, pop and folk influences and writes for a variety of jazz groups\, as well as various classical soloists and ensembles. Commissions include work with the Hermes Experiment\, Norfolk & Norwich Festival\, LSSO\, Hill Quartet\, Pelleas Ensemble\, NW Live Arts and BBC Radio 3\, the latter of which commissioned his cello concerto which was premiered at London’s Southbank Centre by Matthew Barley and the BBC Concert Orchestra. \nIt’s only a matter of time before Misha seals his place on the international scene at the forefront of a new generation of European creative. \nIt wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that accomplished percussionist Paul Clarvis has performed with everyone you know and on everything you love. Clarvis was the late Leonard Bernstein’s preferred London percussionist and helped Rick Smith with the drum arrangement for the London Olympics 2012 show-stopping opening\, as well as having worked with high-profile musicians like Mick Jagger\, Stevie Wonder\, Sir Paul McCartney\, and Elton John. His film slate is just as impressive\, including memorable films like “Star Wars\,” “Harry Potter\,” “The Chronicles of Narnia\,” “Twilight\,” “Skyfall\,” “Tron\,” “Shrek\,” and “The Hobbit.” Beyond his ongoing and in-demand work as a session musician\, Clarvis is also an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
