SUMMARY:UNKNOWN TO KNOWN
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to see Unknown To Known return to Karamel! \nUnknown to Known offers an intimate dialogue of meandering melodies and textural grooves over resounding harmonic landscapes. At times euphoric and often dynamic\, this music is always interactive\, honest and raw. \nThe group is a culmination of four musicians each active in some of the most prominent musical forces around today including Sting\, Van Morrison\, Anoushka Shankar\, Wild Flower\, Ill Considered\, Collocutor\, Akram Khan\, Dele Sosimi\, Sarathy Korwar\, Joy Crookes\, Qwalia and more. \nOn woodwinds\, Idris Rahman and Tamar Osborn weave together the melodic fabric of this music. Their lyrical approach gracefully compliments one another\, whether they play in unison or counterpoint. At any given moment either of them might choose to change instruments as between them\, they cover the baritone and tenor saxophones\, bass and soprano clarinets\, flute and bansuri. \nJihad Darwish oscillates between the sitar\, double bass and electric bass\, providing a bridge from melodic and harmonic worlds down to earthy\, pulsating yet sensitive grooves which Yusuf Ahmed ties together on the drums and various hybrid percussion instruments. \n4 EPs have already been released via Bandcamp only. The music is intentionally only released via this sustainable platform which supports musicians. The music has also found support from DJs and platforms such as Gilles Peterson\, BBC Radio\, Nabiha Iqbal\, Max Reinhard\, Soho Radio and more. \n“Blown away. The best I can do is to keep my silence” (Play It Loud!) \n“One to excite any modern jazz head. The music they create as Unknown To Known is a whole new level of aural meditation.” (Twisted Soul) \nLineup: Idris Rahman (sax\, clarinet)\, Tamar Osborn (sax)\, Jihad Darwish (bass\, sitar)\, Yusuf Ahmed (drums). \n£5 (advance)\, £10 OTD \nDoors open 7pm\, music from 8pm. \nWe gratefully acknowledge the PRS Foundation in supporting this event at Karamel. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. SUMMARY:Noah Stoneman
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, music from 8pm. \nNoah Stoneman is a 22 year old pianist and composer from North London. He is currently studying at the Royal Academy of music and is adept at a wide range of musical idioms. What binds these different languages together is improvisation; an art which Noah aims to master throughout his career. He regularly performs as a sideman for some of the finest musicians across the UK from all generations. \nAs a composer\, Noah takes influence from all walks of music both contemporary and traditional. He is equally adept at subtly emotive synthesiser world-building as well as classic orchestral/chamber themes inspired by timeless predecessors. Noah’s music has been performed at music festivals and venues around the world\, including Brainchild festival\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, La Petite Halle in Paris and Somersby Festival in Lisbon. Over the last 3 years he has taken up contemporary classical composition tuition with Ruth Byrchmore and Alex Hills at the Royal Academy of Music. Noah has composed and arranged for myriad ensembles ranging from Piano Trio\, Big Band\, Improvising Octet\, String Quartet and recently had 2 original song cycles for piano and Opera Soprano performed at the RAM ‘Students Create’ festival. In 2022 Noah composed the original score for the mini series ‘Life in Love’ directed by Abel Rubinstein\, which was broadcast on ITV and went on to be shown at the BFI London Film Festival. \nIn October 2021\, Noah recorded his debut album at Livingston Studios\, London\, with his trio of Will Sach on bass and Luca Caruso on drums. Comprised of all original material and produced by long-time mentor and ECM recording artist Kit Downes\, the record offers a fresh poetic statement that realises Stoneman’s compositional identity. \nNoah will be premiering brand new compositions for solo violin\, as well as a second set of solo piano. \nKaramel – 4 Coburg Road\, London N22 6UJ The Karamel vegan kitchen will be serving food until 9.30pm. Email karamel8775@gmail.com to book a table. \nTickets: £5 in advance from www.musicglue.com/karamel or £10 On The Door. \nDoors open 7pm\, music starts at 8pm.
