DESCRIPTION:PLAY ON is a night of new writing\, live music and delicious food. \n7 – 11pm. Doors at 6:30pm \nFour short plays will be performed\, alongside a Jazz band in a relaxed cabaret environment. Karamel Café\, an award-winning\, 100% vegan restauraunt\, will be serving food and drinks throughout. (Please note\, all tickets include entry and a snack.) \nLater in the evening\, there’ll be a jam session where any musicians in the audience will be welcome to get on stage and join the band. \nAll the proceeds from this event go towards Collage Arts\, a leading arts development\, training and creative regeneration charity based in heart of Haringey. \nFor 39 years\, Collage Arts has created opportunities for greater access and participation in the arts and creative industries for the whole community through a range of skills and enterprise programmes\, support services\, arts development and heritage projects\, facilities and resources.

I’d do anything to protect him…” \nFrom the valleys of South Wales\, Shmedic sets off for medical school in the hope of saving lives… \nParticularly that of her younger brother Chuk\, from sickle cell. \nBut when a night shift from hell and an untimely encounter with a dead body turns her whole life upside down\, who will save her? \nWe meet Shmedic mid therapy session\, in a desperate bid to clear her name. \nFlashbacks of a not so sunny childhood and a tumultuous time at medical school\, reveal a stark contrast to the exemplary ‘NHS hero’ she so proudly claims to be. (There will always be a seating area dedicated to quieter conversations.) \n🍔 THE FOOD Karamel’s fully vegan menu varies every time! The selection for the night will be announced on a blackboard. It usually includes a few daily specials as well as staples like burgers\, pizzas\, and a variety of delicious sides and desserts. \n🍹 THE DRINKS Beer on tap\, wine by the glass\, and a selection of cocktails and mocktails: Karamel’s fully vegan bar has something for every taste. \n👩‍🎤 THE MUSIC The first part of the evening will feature an open mic night where anyone is welcome to showcase their talents (musical or otherwise)\, opened by Mixer regular Alfie Paca 🦙 \nStarting around 9 PM\, KaraoChris will host karaoke for the rest of the night: sign up to jump on stage and sing your heart out! Karamel have kindly offered a meal for two as a prize for the best singer. \n🤗 ATTENDING Entry to the event is totally free\, but please do support the venue by buying some of their delicious food and drinks (both 100% vegan!). \nAll are welcome\, and we strive to make the event a safe and inclusive space for everyone – no discriminatory or abusive behaviour of any kind will be tolerated. \n🌱 THE VENUE Karamel is a very short walk from Wood Green Tube station (Piccadilly Line). The entrance to the venue is step-free and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet. Karamel is dog-friendly\, so feel free to bring your furry friends if they’ll enjoy it. \nOriginally founded and run by vegan activists\, today it’s operated by Collage Arts (a charity supporting the local community) and managed by the lovely Kath who\, together with her charming husband Roger\, also prepares the delicious homemade food served there… in very generous portions 😉 and at fairly affordable prices! \nFor well over a decade now\, Karamel has been at the heart of London’s vegan community\, helping it reach its current size – for example: \ngiving a new home to London Vegan Drinks (Europe’s largest vegan social gathering at the time!) when it outgrew its preceding venues providing a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ vegans (inclusivity and safeguarding having always been a central tenet of theirs) with Fat Gay Vegan’s Queer Vegan Disco throwing official or de facto afterparties for many Animal Rights marches and protests Nowadays\, they host our sister event\, the regular board game event Geekstraveganza (as they’ve done since its inception in 2016)\, and a lot of other wonderful events for the local area and the wider London vegan community.
