(There will always be a seating area dedicated to quieter conversations.) \nTHE FOOD \n🍔🍕 Karamel’s menu varies every time! Burgers and pizzas are usually on offer\, often alongside an Indian thali or a stir fry inspired by East Asian cuisines\, plus of course a number of delicious sides and desserts. \n🍲🍝 Other specials of the day will be announced on the blackboard – rumour has it there might be a tasty surprise 🇮🇹👀 watch this space for more details… \nTHE MUSIC \n🎸🦙 As background for the first part of the night: instrumental live music played by Mixer regular Alfie Paca. \n💃🕺 Deejay set curated by DJÄK (@djakfruit) from 9pm: an eclectic mix of dance music across a broad spectrum including house\, rap\, pop\, drum and bass\, dubstep\, r’n’b and more. \nATTENDING \n🎟️🌱 Entry to the event is totally free\, but please do support the venue by buying some of their delicious food and drinks (both 100% vegan!). \n🫶🤗 All are welcome\, and we strive to make the event a safe and inclusive space for everyone – no discriminatory or abusive behaviour of any kind will be tolerated. \nTHE VENUE \nKaramel is a very short walk from Wood Green Tube station (Piccadilly Line). The entrance to the venue is step-free and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet. Karamel is dog-friendly\, so feel free to bring your furry friends if they’ll enjoy it. \nOriginally founded and run by vegan activists\, today it’s operated by Collage Arts (a charity supporting the local community) and managed by the lovely Kath who\, together with her charming husband Roger\, also prepares the delicious homemade food served there… in very generous portions 😉 and not forgetting the fairly affordable prices! \nFor well over a decade now\, Karamel has been at the heart of London’s vegan community\, helping it reach its current size – for example: \n\ngiving a new home to London Vegan Drinks (a London Vegan Meetup event and Europe’s largest vegan social gathering at the time!) when it outgrew its preceding venues\nproviding a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ vegans (inclusivity and safeguarding having always been a central tenet of theirs) with Fat Gay Vegan’s Queer Vegan Disco\nthrowing official or de facto afterparties for many Animal Rights marches and protests\n\nNowadays\, they host not only another London Vegan Meetup event\, the regular Geekstraveganza (as they’ve done since its inception in 2016)\, but also a lot of other wonderful events for both the local area and the wider London vegan community.

SUMMARY:Firebrand Poets
DESCRIPTION:🎤✨ A Firebrand Poets extravaganza event on Friday 28th February 2025 from 7.30pm at Karamel Club 🫶🏾 \nFirebrand! Firebrand stands in some people’s minds for blazing a trail\, burning down the house – and dancing on the tiles of roofs. You may have heard the phrase “they’re real firebrands!”\, involving both destructive and creative powers\, destroying what’s old\, burning with what’s new. We stand for new voices\, voices in the margins\, voices of the people\, community based and justice minded. ❤️‍🔥🫀✊🏾 \nWe are delighted to be hosting our first ticketed event at the brilliant vegan venue\, Karamel Club in Wood Green. This will be a specially curated event consisting of headline performers\, open mic\, food & drink\, networking opportunities\, an intentional ritual and a mystery prize. 🎤 🏆 🥭 \nThere will be six headline performers: Shohid Rahman\, Muzibur Rahman\, Liba Ravindran\, Ms Defiance\, Soulful Si and Kabbo Hue Qua👏🏾 \nWe are asking people to buy tickets for this event so that we can pay our performers\, and to provide the means for us to continue our work collectively. Firebrand Poets have run over twenty events in the last fifteen months and we are very excited to invite you to the next chapter in our evolution. 🤩 \nPut your name down for an open mic slot via firebrandpoets@riseup.net and find out more about us here: https://linksta.cc/@firebrandpoets 🙌🏾 \nBios for Firebrand Poets: \nMuzibur Rahman: I’m a trained physicist moonlighting as an artist and poet. And although physics starts with a p\, I can promise you there is no physics in my poetry. \nLiba Ravindran: Liba Ravindran (he/they) is a spoken word poet\, community organiser and social justice activist from Sri Lankan Tamil heritage\, born in Norway and presently living in Southgate\, North London. Liba has been using his poetry for grassroots change as a community activist and involved in the local poetry/spoken word scene in London through readings at various venues. \nShohid Rahman: Shohidur Rahman is or tries to be a poet and writer of prose\, based in North London\, though he is originally from Leeds (and Bangladesh).
