In his long career\, he recorded close to 90 albums as a bandleader or co-leader and won 23 Grammys\, and many of his compositions have become jazz standards\, marked by his dreamy but brightly illuminated harmonies and ear-grabbing melodies. \nDrummer Tristan Mailliot has assembled a quartet of top flight musicians\, including BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist Tom Ridout on sax\, who share a deep love of Chick’s music . Loz Speyer’s music for Inner Space comes with references from deep within the jazz tradition – swing\, bebop\, free jazz and all the way back to New Orleans – arranged in such a way as to give the group space to explore new areas and discover where the music might GO. Each piece evolves its own unique form\, feeling and direction\, five highly distinctive musicians working it all out in the here and NOW. \nInner Space has been touring over the last year with fresh sounds in the saxophone section\, building on a band sound developed through some years of touring and recording\, with bassist Olie Brice and drummer Gary Willcox. On this night at Karamel\, Inner Space features the amazing Dee Byrne on alto sax – and as a special guest\, the wonderful Josephine Davies on tenor sax. SUMMARY:Noah Stoneman presents freestyle jazz
DESCRIPTION:Noah presents a monthly night of freestyle jazz at Karamel. \nBand line-up to follow. \nNoah Stoneman is a 22 year old pianist and composer from North London. He is currently studying at the Royal Academy of music and is adept at a wide range of musical idioms. What binds these different languages together is improvisation; an art which Noah aims to master throughout his career. He regularly performs as a sideman for some of the finest musicians across the UK from all generations. \nAs a composer\, Noah takes influence from all walks of music both contemporary and traditional. He is equally adept at subtly emotive synthesiser world-building as well as classic orchestral/chamber themes inspired by timeless predecessors. Noah’s music has been performed at music festivals and venues around the world\, including Brainchild festival\, Manchester Jazz Festival\, La Petite Halle in Paris and Somersby Festival in Lisbon. Over the last 3 years he has taken up contemporary classical composition tuition with Ruth Byrchmore and Alex Hills at the Royal Academy of Music. Noah has composed and arranged for myriad ensembles ranging from Piano Trio\, Big Band\, Improvising Octet\, String Quartet and recently had 2 original song cycles for piano and Opera Soprano performed at the RAM ‘Students Create’ festival. In 2022 Noah composed the original score for the mini series ‘Life in Love’ directed by Abel Rubinstein\, which was broadcast on ITV and went on to be shown at the BFI London Film Festival. \nIn October 2021\, Noah recorded his debut album at Livingston Studios\, London\, with his trio of Will Sach on bass and Luca Caruso on drums. DESCRIPTION:Doors open 2pm\, music from 3pm. \nSUNDAY AFTERNOON JAZZ with Dave Green\, bassist and Sam Braysher\, saxophonist. \nLine-up: Dave Green – bass\, Sam Braysher – alto saxophone\, Josh Morrison – drums. \nDave Green – No musician can have covered more of the British jazz scene than bassist Dave Green. From Humphrey Lyttelton to Stan Tracey\, not to mention some of the grandest visitors to Ronnie Scott’s\, he has understood and underpinned them all. \nGreen’s first public performances were with his childhood friend Charlie Watts in the late 1950s. While performing with Humphrey Lyttelton from 1963 to 1983\, Green also played with the Don Rendell–Ian Carr band in the early 1960s\, and went on to play with Stan Tracey. In the early 1980s\, Green led his own group\, Fingers\, featuring Lol Coxhill\, Bruce Turner and Michael Garrick Green regularly backed visiting American stars at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club\, including Coleman Hawkins\, Ben Webster\, Roland Kirk and Sonny Rollins. Green has also performed and recorded with Dave Newton\, Didier Lockwood and Spike Robinson. In 1991\, Green was a founding member of Charlie Watts’s quintet\, together with Gerard Presencer\, Peter King and Brian Lemon. \nSince 1998\, Green has led a trio featuring Iain Dixon and Gene Calderazzo\, and since 2009\, he has been a member of The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie\, with Ben Waters\, Axel Zwingenberger and Charlie Watts\, performing at the Lincoln Center with Bob Seeley and Lila Ammons. \nSam Braysher saxophonist – ‘I can’t think of another alto saxophonist with a sound quite like Sam Braysher’s’ ★★★★ (Dave Gelly\, The Observer) \n‘Braysher’s cool\, modernist twist on old songs is just superb’ (Simon Adams\, Jazz Journal) \nDoors open 2pm\, music from 3pm. Anmol’s musical journey began at Nepal Music Center in Kathmandu\, Nepal where he received a residential scholarship from December 2009 to March 2015\, honing his skills in drums\, tabla\, and traditional Nepali folk percussion instruments. He has received two national awards; ‘UK Young Drummer Of The Year’ (2017) and ‘Yamaha Future Beat’ (2018). In 2023\, Anmol graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a first class in jazz percussion. He has worked with Nicolas Meier\, Antoine Fafard\, Phil Meadows\, Gareth Lockrane and Loz Speyer. \nAnmol’s music is a blend of traditional Nepali music with jazz and other groove-based genres. DESCRIPTION:Photocredit: Jason Collin \nCollage Arts are thrilled to support Rose Marie Prins to facilitate 2 workshops for artists\, leading to a multimedia exhibition. \nThrough our* workshops\, we invite artists from the world over to participate in They Had No Time to Say Goodbye\, a multimedia installation about missing and murdered indigenous women in North America. #MMIW #MMIWG \nDuring the workshops\, participants draw portraits of North American Indigenous women to incorporate into the installation. Some may then choose to tape their drawings onto a window\, tape an x-ray over it\, and scratch their portrait onto the x-ray which will be added to the installation. Those who choose not to scratch portraits on x-rays are invited to donate their drawings of Indigenous women to the project. \n*“Our” refers to my two Diné (Navajo) collaborators\, Patricia Yazzie Olson\, Roberta Begaye and me. \nRose Marie Prins PhD\, Biography \nArtist Rose Marie Prins’ mixed-media paintings\, sculptures and multimedia installations have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums\, cultural centers and galleries throughout North America. She has work is in public\, corporate\, and private collections in the US\, Canada and Europe and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. For over two decades she has taught drawing\, sculpture\, painting and art appreciation in colleges and universities in the United States. Currently\, Prins is traveling in Europe conducting art workshops to educate participants about the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (#MMIWG). \nWorkshops starts at 4pm and 6.30pm. Work will be hung from 8pm.
