zerOclassikal: Hari Sivanesan – Veena

BOOK TICKETS HERE

It is not often that a musician will just stare at their instrument and ask – what is it? What is it doing to me?

As a young British Asian, this is exactly what Hari Sivanesan has been doing with this ancient instrument of all, known for its beautiful sounds, and one that he has accomplished since a very young age. Here, he unfolds his and his instrument’s existentialism.

the zerOclassikal project, a partnership between zeroculture and Collage Arts, continues to offer a radical approach to south Asian classical music, aiming to provide British born and trained musicians the voice and platform to explore what their identity brings to the ‘ancient’ musical genre . The Project facilitates progressions, experiments and developments of the genre, featuring commissions of new ragas, new interpretations, compositions & improvisations. The Karamel Lounge is proud once again to host the project with a once a month programme featuring artists willing to push the boundaries of south Asian classical music.

Saturday 21st February – 11am – FREE

Karamel Kids: Gunpowder Gertie’s Storytime

Gunpowder Gertie introduces Gertrude Imogene Stubbs, a notorious female pirate in the Canadian province of British Columbia. In this theatre show, Gertie is brought to life through shimmie-shake-and-silly-yourself yoga, singsongs with an educational twist and pirate-themed stories. Gertie’s Storytime is far from the usual sit-down affair! Fresh from travelling the high seas with her beloved Colonel Mosschops, Gertie looks forward to sharing a tale or two with all you landlubbers.

Local community artist and performer Emily Green will be facilitating the session as the infamous Gunpowder Gertie. Emily has been working with young people and children for a total of ten years. She creates, makes, and performs with children all over the country.
Sessions are suitable for pre-schoolers to 8 years.

Expect the unexpected!

Reggae: Live Injection The Music Hub

We love the sound of a fat, deep, dub bass at Kabaret at Karamel so in partnership with promoters Live Injection we present a reggae evening every Sunday night. New resident DJ is legendary tune master Goldfinger Ranking from Wisdom Hardcore and there are guest DJs each week.

That would be enough in itself, but as a special treat for you Live Injection are programming live acts guaranteed to get you up and moving and world food is available from the kitchen between 6 and 9.30pm.

Check the flyer for ticket price and arrive before 8pm for super cheap entry. Jah bless.
