Nights of Soul Live Music & Open Mic

love&music are back with their first event post-lockdown! Nights of Soul is an open mic and live music event with a family feel. The house band – VVN & The Origin, will open the night with some of our favourite RnB, Soul, Jazz, Blues and Neo-soul classics before opening the floor for the open mic section.

Noah Stoneman & Ruben Fox

Noah Stoneman is a 20 year old pianist and composer from north London. He is currently studying at the Royal Academy of music and is adept at a wide range of musical idioms. What binds these different languages together is improvisation; the art which Noah aims to master throughout his career. He regularly performs as a sideman for some of the finest musicians across the UK from all generations, including Jim Mullen, Mark Kavuma, Xhosa Cole, Alex Hitchcock and also leads his own trio, for which he composes and performs his original music. Tonight he leads a quartet performing their interpretations of classic repertoire from the jazz continuum.

Tomorrow’s Warriors Presents: Emily Roberts

The Emily Roberts Sextet mixes groove, electronic music and jazz. Under the artistic leadership of the guitarist Emily, the band reworks jazz standards in this context and explores Emily’s original compositions. Among other artists, her writing is influenced by the Brecker Brothers, Schoenberg and John Scofield, and the debut EP of the project is set to be released later this year.

Zantogola

Zantogola is a London based, musical collective that unites diverse identities to foster an exciting creative spirit of common purpose and community from Burkina Faso to London, bringing peace and freedom to move all souls and bodies! Inspired by the West African heritage of popular rhythms and songs, Zantogola master and explore the polyrhythmic melodies of plenguedey music: a fusion between elements of mandingue, highlife and afrobeat with hip hop, reggae and jazz.

Pigfoot

Pigfoot was formed in 2014 by Chris Batchelor to apply an open and original improvised approach to classic 1920’s New Orleans themes, to transform, re-construct and revitalise the material. Through their ‘Pigoot Play’ series of gigs at the Vortex they have taken their explorations in all directions, with concert editions dedicated to Opera, Motown, Elvis, Bacharach and the hits of 1972, all spontaneously transmuted by the band’s wild musicality and wry humour.

 The Jon Onabowu Trio

Strap in for an eclectic night of live music with The Jon Onabowu Trio. Following their debut success of two sold-out shows at the Vortex and Crypt, this young fusion band packs quite the punch. A roster who’ve played with Emeli Sande, Kamaal Williams and Kokoroko speaks for itself: Led by drummer Jon Onabowu, it features Jon Moko on bass and Jeffrey Osei-Asibey on keys. Expect fusion classics from the likes of Weather Report through to modern-day masterpieces by Robert Glasper that’ll keep your feet tappin’ all night long!

Amy Gadiaga (double bass, vocals) performed with her quartet at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2020 after a lockdown full of writing music and self-exploration. Connecting the old school jazz singer’s storytelling and the modern rhythms inspired by artists such as D’Angelo and The Jacksons, Amy’s band offers energetic performances that celebrates artistry and freedom.

 Portrait of Duke Ellington: Lauren Bush & Marco Marconi

Join vocalist Lauren Bush and pianist Marco Marconi as they explore the fascinating career of Duke Ellington. Featuring some of the most famous jazz standards in history, everything from “A Train” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing” to “Solitude” and “Lush Life”, his songs tell a story that is full of beautiful, funny and interesting moments. Duke’s music was usually intended to be played by a big band, so with Lauren’s inventive phrasing and Marco’s effervescent piano stylings the two make space for some different forms and styles, and some emotional moments.

Indigo World Events presents ‘Mehfil Nights at Karamel’. A Diwali Special concert featuring Unnati Dasgupta (vocals), Narayanan Poonani (vocals), Mohammed Kassam (keyboard) & Bhavesh Parmar (tabla).

Join us for a special Diwali celebration of ‘Mehfil Nights at Karamel’ featuring Bollywood, Bhajan, Mantra Chants & Sufi music in an acoustic intimate ‘Mehfil’ setting. A ‘Mehfil’ is a courtly intimate setting of music.

Jay Phelps OST

Jay Phelps and SoulEndvr are delighted to share with you a signature event ‘OST’ (Original Soundtrack). We will show short films and have a live band improvise a set throughout, like a pit band for a theatre, but super engaging! We usually have the who’s who of the London Jazz scene take part in this very unique event, which tends to end with a Jam session full of live energy and incredible sounds.
