24 young people from New Arts, Collage Arts and WAC are taking part in a Youth in Action project from January 2012 – Collaboration in the Air. The project provides a series of exchange visits and activities to develop a range of creative and cultural media products and initiatives focusing on leadership, entrepreneurship and empowerment. The first exchange visit to Arnhem, Netherland took place in late January to coincide with the annual New Arts XXL youth festival and resulted in a Live Magazine – and a Music Video.
The project developed following collaborations between key partners on the Euro-Aspire project and promises to promote active youth citizenship and provide a forum for positive change, as well as build mutual understanding and cultural entrepreneurship.
The project will give the participants a chance to experience and connect with another European culture, take part in the community to explore and expand ideas, and through the exchange see how they are placed within a broader society, namely Europe.
The youth of today are already citizens of a global world as they cannot imagine a life without the internet. What happened in the Arab Spring rising follows them closely and closer to home in the UK, the riots surrounding young people continue to be a hot topic of debate. During the project, these topics and similar issues will be brought to the forefront. The aim of the project is to inspire more young people into working actively together using creative media to present their ideas and develop their voice.
